NAACP Expanding Protests Over NC Schools Decision

Charlotte has become the latest hotspot of racial outrage in North Carolina, with black community leaders expanding protests after what they describe as an insulting decision to schedule school on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
Local NAACP President Kojo Nantambu plans a letter-writing campaign to pressure major organizations – such as the NCAA or PGA – to take a closer look at Charlotte before hosting events in the area. He expects they’ll find that North Carolina’s largest city isn’t the harmonious and progressive destination it portrays itself to be.
“Charlotte is a racist community,” Nantambu said bluntly.
Racial tensions have been brewing across North Carolina in recent years, with school boards repeatedly serving as a hot plate. On Tuesday night, shortly after the Charlotte NAACP was voting to expand its protest, the Raleigh-area school board drew the mocking of comedian Stephen Colbert for changes to its school assignment policy. Second Person Arrested in Police Probe into Stabbing in Highbridge

Police have today (Monday) said a second person has been arrested following a serious stabbing in Highbridge at the weekend which has left a man in a critical condition.
As first reported here at the weekend, officers were called to Charlotte Court at just before 5.25pm on Saturday evening when a 36-year-old male suffered serious injuries in an assault.
A man in his 30s has handed himself in at Taunton Police Station and has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. More >
